January Brewcommune Meeting

Post by brew captain »

It looks like we will be holding our first meeting of the new year at Alcatraz down at the Block in Orange. The meeting will be on Tuesday, January 20th starting at 6:30pm. We have a little business to attend to and will be collecting 2009 membership dues if you have not already paid via PayPal.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers!

Alcatraz Brewmaster Robb MacLeod will be our guest speaker at this meeting.

Please let me know if anyone has any good topic ideas or questions they would like to hear about so I can coordinate with Robb beforehand.

Maybe a spiel on how to avoid chill haze and/or how to correct same with/without filtration (whatever they do there I suppose).

Since I just brewed one this last weekend, I believe I will be doing a style presentation on Dunkelwiezen's. A liquor store near my work has three commercial examples I can bring to evaluate. It is a very delicious style, but not one you hear of a lot of guys brewing up.

Cheers!

I brewed a Weizenbock (a little bigger and hoppier than a Dunkelweizen) a couple years ago. It took a third place at the 2006 IEB comp (33.5 score). I don't care for wheat beers in general, so I brewed for the experience of it. Tap's in Corona has a Weizenbock on tap right now, but I tried it the other night and didn't care for it. I look forward to your presentation and ideas on this style.

Let me be the first to say, "Fucking WOW Robert!!!" First meeting of the year and I already got my $20 worth! THat was a fantastic presentation on styles, really!

RObert must have had a dozen or more samples of German weizen style beers from hefe to kristal to wiezenbock. Nice work Robert. Thank God no one else is expected to live up to your dedication or no one else would run for office!

Great presentation Robert! It's too bad we didn't have a better turnout last night. Two new members though, so that was nice.

If you are a member and you missed the meeting, you missed one of the most informative meetings to date. Between Robert's presentation on Weizenbiers and Robb's talk about how he brews at Alcatraz, it was almost information overload. Great food and service too.

Agreed, a very fun and informative meeting. Too bad the attendance was low. I had a great time though.

Damn... Sorry I missed it. I'll have to prioritize my hall pass request a little better next time.
