Definitely over carbed. I had a well chilled 22oz last night. Poped the cap off, no immediate geyser, but you could see the bubbles immediately starting to come out of solution. Enough bubbles occurred to push out a small stream of foam from the mouth of the bottle.
I'm not sure where I went wrong, but perhaps maybe my digital scale was off? Can't see that happening though.
Anyways, Derrin when you get a chance let me know what you think. It tastes ok to me, but I'm thinking my earlier assumption of extra tannins extracted during the "short cut" steep method for the specialty grains is accurate.

Derrin, give that red I left at your place a taste when you get a chance and let me know what you think.
Be careful though, they aren't bottle bombs, but they are definitely over carbonated and will foam out of the bottle after about 10 seconds from opening. Be sure you have a 16oz glass or bigger handy before you open the bottle. Pop the top and immediately begin a slow pour into the tilted glass. This generally eliminates any spilling. YMMV

Aroma: 9/12
Nice aroma with slighty sweet caramel/toffee aroma. No hops detectable. Appropriate for style.
Appearance: 2/3
A nice red color, ever so slightly closer to brown but good overall. Very slight chill haze, the glass still appears to have fine condensation on it even though it's clean. To be expected for a beer bottled 2 weeks ago. Excellent head of coarse off-white bubbles. Very persistent.
Flavor: 14/20
Slightly sweet with a good bitterness balance. Little to no hop flavor. Has a slight bubble gummy ester but it's slight. Has some astringency in the finish but not enough to make you set it down. Alcohol flavor and warth is detectable.
Mouthfeel: 4/5
Good mouthfeel, lots of body. Does have a slight slickness but i can't detect any diacetyl aroma. (appropriate for style) The astringency in the finish is a little distracting but more so in flavor than mouthfeel. 4/5 for the nice medium creamy body.
Overall Impression: 7/10
i judged this as if it were a 9D. This was a nice drinking beer but a little too astringent. A little more time in the bottle would do it some good but overall I'd drink another (and another) Maybe back off the bittering hops ever so slightly. A hard category to place, probably not dry enough and slightly too much body for an Irish Red and definately not hopped enough for an American Red.

Thank you very much! That is an incredibly detailed review and much more then I was expecting. Really appreciated.
Some of the flaws could be attributed to it being an extract kit, however I'm thinking the astringency could have definitely been improved by doing a stricter steeping process as discussed earlier in this thread. I'll probably not brew this kit again since I'm leaning towards going AG, but I'd definitely consider it otherwise as it's quite quaffable and I know I could do a better job next time.
I will see about hiding a bottle or two for tasting a couple months from now, but I expect I may deplete my stock of this batch at my birthday party this Saturday. (Technically it's Sunday, but I'm reserving that for my wife's first Mother's Day)
