22nd Annual Southern California Regional Homebrew Champ.
The 22nd Annual Southern California Regional Homebrew Championship is being judged on July 25 and 26. The entry deadline is July 10. This competition is put on by our good friends at the Inland Empire Brewers. They always do a great job of organizing and the judging is usually very good. If you want to judge or steward for the first time, this is the comp to do it at. Great people and the best pizza in Corona. The entry drop off and judging are at Main Street Brewery/Lamppost Pizza in Corona.

Brad
Also, you can save one dollar off each entry by using this coupon.Hello esteemed beer judge! It is time for the Inland Empire Brewers to request your presence in judging the 22nd Annual So Cal Regional Homebrew Championship to be held July 25 and 26 at Main Street Brewery in Corona. Judging will begin both days at 10:00 am and we are requesting your arrival by 9:30 for breakfast. Lunch, of course, will be provided. Bob Kluver’s amazing world-class beers, however, will not! You have to pony up to drink last year’s Gold Medal GABF-winning Bishop’s Tipel Tripel and you should hope it is still on tap!
Back to purpose. If you can help judge, please respond to this email directly to me with the following answered (brubrew at gmail dot com):

The response has been overwhelming on this thread. Did anyone enter besides me? I have 9 beers in this one - Schwarzbier, Oak Aged Amber Ale, Foreign Extra Stout, Cal Common, Munich Helles, American Pale Ale, American IPA, Vienna, and Brown Porter.

I thought about it, but was too lazy to bottle up my Saison. The keg's empty now...

I'm up for judging but could use a ride from Orange so who else's going from the OC?
Sorry, if there's no ride for me, no judging as I have to leave our van for Marian to use plus it's always too damn hot in there and she'd melt like butter if I took her along and the aftereffects are not good for the both of us.
(I'm trying to take coming back on here and participating with positive comments to help all out. I may even brew again inOctober for a club brew day!)

Good question ... I didn't get an email about judging this comp. Maybe I'll ask Christian about it. I'm actually in class on Saturday, but I could judge on Sunday.

I just haven't had anything worthy of competition. One of these days I'll brew beer again....

Re: 22nd Annual Southern California Regional Homebrew Champ.
My Oak Aged Amber took 2nd and my Helles got a 3rd. Here are the scores for all my beers:
Helles - 38.5
Vienna - 27.3
Schwarzbier - 36.3
Cal Common - 26.6
Am. Pale - 27.3
Brown Porter - 34.7
Foreign Extra Stout - 40
Am. IPA - 34.5
Wood Aged - 35.7
Lyn and I judged some really bad beers on Saturday. Hal and Lyn came on Saturday and judged. I judged both days. I think they had almost 300 beers entered this year. Overall, I was happy with my scores, but disappointed that more of my beers did not place. My Stout was my highest scoring beer, yet did not place - it even got a 42 from a nationally ranked BJCP judge.

Wow, a 40 and not even placing. How could the beers in that cat. be so good? There could not have been that many entries.Thats bad luck.

yeah, I was disappointed, but that's the way it goes. i will be interested to see if the scores are posted if they ever get the results uploaded. for such a good club with an active membership, they sure have a crappy web site.hjw wrote:Wow, a 40 and not even placing. Re: 22nd Annual Southern California Regional Homebrew Champ.
Could be they did a mini BOS and a lower scoring beer won. We did that last year at this comp in the specialty category. We at least gave the other beer an honerable mention though.
Re: 22nd Annual Southern California Regional Homebrew Champ.
More than likely what Brent mentioned about the mini-BoS. At that point scores generally aren't a consideration and there's more esoteric evaluation being done. "Would I drink a glass, a bottle, a growler or a keg of this stuff" kind of things get passed around for consideration.
