~10 in attendance
Orange County is in the purple tier so the decision was made for us in regards to meeting at breweries again. We will continue Zoom meetings for the time being and some good discussion was had about options to increase participation which I'll go into further below.
2021 Officer Elections
Officer elections are up in the club business forum here: http://www.brewcommune.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=12
Style & Comp. Coordinator and Treasurer have accepted nominations but the other officer positions still need nominees. If you think someone would be a good fit for an officer position, please nominate a member before Wednesday, November 25th.
Moderator Rights for Officers and Website Update
Some of the officers don't have the correct position on the forums and it results in people who aren't officers anymore getting emails and causing other issues. We are looking into giving the future secretary position moderator rights going forward so this can be easily fixed. Updating our website was talked about especially the front page. It's not the most modern website in the world and could probably use a refresh.
2021 Membership Dues
$20 a year to be a part of the best homebrew club in Orange County. http://www.brewcommune.com/join-the-club.html
Remember to add your board name and '2021 dues' to the memo/subject field. It helps us give you credit for your dues.
Future Meetings
This was one of the bigger topics we talked about so I'll break it down into sections.
- Club Insurance - There was some discussion about future meetings at breweries and if meeting there would cause any issues with our club insurance. If for some reason our club insurance thought we weren't taking every precaution or causing too much liability if we could cause an issue.
Meeting Attendance - It's no shock attendance has dropped quite a bit since we started Zoom meetings and some ideas were thrown around to increase participation.
Calvin's presentations have been great and keeping those going while incorporating club beer buys to match the presentation.
Starting club beer buys up again and instead of having people buy a 4 pack of one beer, having 4 individual beers to create more of a taster flight.
When we did the Skyland Ale Works group buy Brad stopped by the meeting to talk about the beers and this would be awesome to do and ask the brewer of every group buy if they wouldn't mind stopping by our meeting and talk a little bit about the beers.
Another cool idea that was brought up was to do a joint meeting with another club. Other clubs seem to be having the same issues with attendance so combining forces could be an interesting idea. Paul Watson's name from OC Mashups was brought up to see if he would be willing to do a presentation. He is knowledgable on kveik yeast.
Off-Month Meetings - Planning on having more scheduled events for off-month meetings to encourage attendance. Club group buys will probably be on official meetings but doing a shared homebrew tasting was brought up to try.
Calvin has a post up about a new idea to share homebrew and be able to offer feedback during official or off-month meetings. We want to run a pilot group to get out any kinks before we officially try it next year. It would involve dropping off small bottles of your homebrew to Brewers Hardware by a certain date and picking up any homebrew that is there. We are going to create a google sheet so people can enter their homebrew and track who else has dropped off/picked up. Check out the details here and if you are interested in signing up for the pilot group, shoot Calvin a message: http://www.brewcommune.com/forum/viewto ... f=2&t=3750
Christmas Party
Unfortunately this is cancelled for the time being. We are exploring the idea of turning this into more of a summer party if things are better by then.
Club Brew Days
Because we are limited to no more than 3 families in a group setting, if people are comfortable hosting a small group brew day it should be fine to do as long as we are following the rules as a club. If multiple people want to brew on the same day we can split attendance into small groups for each household.
Skyland Ale Works Anniversary Party
Brad announced their anniversary party is on Saturday, November 28th. 2PM - 10PM. They will be expanding out into their parking lot with lots of room for everyone outdoors. Food truck, live band, and great beer. Small Brewery Sunday is the following day so this is a great way to get a kickstart on supporting small breweries for Thanksgiving weekend.
