5# steel co2 tank
I recently acquired a 5 # co2 steel tank. Can't tell the hydro date and can post pics later this weekend.
1st $40 OBO gets it.
More stuff to follow.

Dhempy's offered for this, but I still need to check the hydro date. There's a lot of numbers all around on it and it's real hard to tell them apart.

Post a picture of all the numbers and I'll tell you the hyrdo date. The numbers should start with AA there should be some spacing and then clearly a date like 07/08, then a seal stamp from the company that hydro'd the tank.spkrtoy wrote:Dhempy's offered for this, but I still need to check the hydro date. I hope this will give some more insight, see my gallery here:
the photo's are from 1 thru 5 by turning the cylinder counter-clockwise and as I stated, there's a lot of numbers.
If I have the will, I will post some more photo's tonight, otherwise I think this is out of "hydro". Dan, I don't think this will ever be a problem, but if you don't want it for the $40, I'll understand. (I have your grain ready and loaded for Pete to p/u).
I also have 2 5# aluminum tanks hydro. marked 01 and an old Kidde modified steel fire extinguisher that's got a "92" date and I've had them filled, successfully, for 6+ years at O'shea's for ~$10 ea. and without problems and I would have done the same with this one without any type of concern, except I've not been by O'sheas in the past 2 weeks for work, (I had the tank in the cab of my truck and did not remember I had it there earlier today otherwise I'd have posted photos earlier).

Hope this is clearer than mud..

From what I hear, the hydro test's not a big deal for welding and gas places, it's something they have to do on a regular basis so I'd use the "don't ask, don't tell" attitude when turning it in but if that's a problem, no biggie as I can get it filled at o'sheas no questions asked.
Cheers,

It appears to have a 04/01 Hydro which I believe is current for a C02 tank. I think they are every 10 years (5 for scuba for sure). But what's interesting is that tank appears to have been hydro'd quite a few times and just a few years apart. It's hard to tell from photos, but it looks like it may have been hydro'd in 82, 85 and 88. Seems strange that they'd test it every 3 years (again in 01). Hydro tests are very hard on the cylinder.
I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble swapping it though.
