IEB Competition June 22

Post by Rezzin »

Is anyone entering this competition? I'll probably be entering my Munich Helles and Cali Common. 2 bottles and $5 per entry.

I was going to enter, but I don't have any beer left.

Yes. I'll be entering the milk stout, RyePA, and my IPA. I hope these "hopheads" can handle an IPA brewed with a whole pound of Columbus (in 15 gallons)...

I'll be judging so I doubt that I'll enter anything.

I'm taking two entries over to the brewery at lunch. I guess I'll have to have a beer while I'm there..... Dammit!

9E Strong Scotch Ale 39 in AHA 1
4C Schwartzbier 35.5 in AHA 1

We'll see how they do.

I'll be dropping off Mike and my entries at B3 this afternoon. I'm entering my Oatmeal Stout... The only thing I have right now.

It doesn't look like I will be entering anything this year. I have an American Stout ready, but I don't feel like bottling it. I am planning on judging though.

I almost didn't enter this year. But my wife convinced me to bottle a sixer for the IEB and OC fair last night. It sucks to get out all the cpf stuff for only a six pack, but it is done.

Well,
Brad N., Brent, Hal (hjw) and I judged today.
I did Cat 7 in the am and cat 10 in the pm.

Brad was actually my student today and he did really well and on his second beer he gave it a 40! I gave it a 46 and for intents and purposes I believe it was Rezzin's! The other 13 cali commons we had all scored below 25 and I had to score one a 9 as it was so terrible and infected I could not let any in my mouth to taste it, and none of the others had any hop aroma let alone malt so unless someone switched #'s around, Mike's should place 1st.

The American Ambers I judged had some really great examples and I gave 2 of them 37's and one a 45.

Brent and Hal said in their categories they had no "stellar" examples so next year we need to enter a lot as well as help judge/steward it.

It was only 105 or something incredibly hot out there (but it's a dry heat) and the a/c in the room we judge in was not working so it got up over 85 inside.
Cheers,
Lyn

The temperature was a little better today, maybe because we were on the other side of the restaurant. I don't know if it was Mike's, but I judged the Mini-BOS round with the winning cali common and it didn't make it into the BOS round. It was up against a really good english mild and a very good dortmunder export and german pils. The CC was probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite in the round, the other judges agreed it was very good but they really liked the dort. Eventually the mild and dortmunder moved on. It's tough choosing between such great beers. I usually don't like english beers, but that mild was really excellent and was everyone's favorite in the round.

I think I might have placed somewhere with my Saison, I know it scored a 39.5.

Oh, I didn't notice that Lars entered an oatmeal stout. I don't know if it was his, but there was an oatmeal stout in the mini-BOS round at the table next to us. I don't think they were putting it through, though.

Brent, they usually give the results and medal's after the judging on Sunday. Wonder why that changed?

I had a hockey game tonight and had to leave right after the mini-BOS round. A few of the groups took a really long time to get through their flights. It's a bummer too, because they actually asked me to judge the BOS round and that would have been a lot of fun.
